Górnik Zabrze, a multiple champion and cup winner, is one of the most distinguished football clubs in Poland. The club was founded in 1948 as a result of merger of SC "Zjednoczenie", SC "Concordia", SC "Pogoń" i SC "Skra".
The first championship title was won in 1957 and for the next 11 years Górnik Zabrze did not finish the league in the lower than the third spot. Between 1963-1967 the club had an impressive series of winning, they have set a record in the Polish League by winning the Polish Championship five times in a row.
Górnik Zabrze has won altogether 14 championship titles, but the greatest success in the club’s history was reaching the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup final in Vienna in 1970. Górnik Zabrze lost the match against Manchester City with the final result 1:2. Stanisław Oślizło scored the only goal for Górnik in the match.
